Ikenna Igwe relishing European dream with Slovenian club

Former Campos FC utility player and new KNK Fuzinar Ravne of Slovenia acquisition, Divine Ikenna Igwe has expressed his delight at the opportunity to start his aspiration to play overseas with his new club.

Igwe who was unveiled on Saturday after a satisfactory display during the preseason activities in character and sporting reasons where he played in seven friendly games, was listed for his team’s away trip to TKK Tolmin played on Sunday at Stadion Na Brajdi (Tolmin).

Even though Fuzinar Ravne could not recover from a 12th minute strike scored by Nejc Močnik of TKK Tolmin, Igwe told Dasportstainment247.com that they were only unfortunate not to get at least a point from the first league game of the season and are looking forward to their next league game with NK Brinje Grosuplje at home on Saturday.

Igwe popularly called Shoki at his new club got his breakthrough when he featured in a scouting programme in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State last November when he emerged as the Most Valuable Player of the competition. With the support of his grassroots team, Campos FC owner, Patrick Osuji, Jonathan Endurance and Slovenian Damir Skomina who is reputed for being the centre referee of the 2019 Uefa Champions League final between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

The player helped Campos FC to gain promotion from the Nationwide League to the Nigeria National League and he was awesome as the Owerri side competed in the country’s second tier league.

Campos FC participated at the scouting programme in Uyo through the recommendation of one of their former players, Bede Amarachi Osuji (FC Koper) who informed Jonathan and Skomina of the qualities of players at the club. They were not disappointed after they picked three players from Campos FC including Igwe at the end of the scouting programme.

Igwe who can play as a left and right winger and as a striker told our correspondent that it was not all rosy for him at the start but he is happy that everything has worked out well and he has now begun his adventure abroad.

He said the news of his switch to KNK Fuzinar will no doubt gladdens his friends, family and well wishers especially his mother, Mrs Rose Anya who has really done so much for him to ensure he excels as a footballer.

“I am more than happy to start my adventure in Europe with the Slovenian club, KNK Fuzinar Ravne. It has been a very tough journey from Campos FC to the scouting programme in Uyo, Akwa Ibom and now to here. I want to give all thanks to God for all those he has used and will still be using to help me,” Igwe told dasportstainment247.com.

“Mr Patrick Osuji, the owner of Campos FC spotted me at a very young age and he has taken me under his wing. I want to specially thank him for all he has done for me. Mr Jonathan Endurance and Damir Skomina and even Bede Amarachi Osuji have done so much to me. I can’t thank them enough.

“I am happy that my dream to play in Europe has been fulfilled. I know this is just the start for me. I want to appreciate my family members, players of Campos FC and my wonderful mother, Mrs Rose Anya who I know would have his recovery from his ailment sped up after she hears this good news.”

Igwe made his debut for KNK Fuzinar Ravne on Sunday in the Slovenian Division Two opener against TKK Tolmin and even though they lost the game 1-0 he was on for 90 minutes and gave a good account of himself.

The number 10 jersey Afikpo South, Ebonyi State born attacker said his immediate target is to stabilize with his new team and help the team either to secure promotion to Division One or to give a good fight in Division Two.

Igwe and his team will now return home to focus on their Saturday duel with NK Brinje Grosuplje in a Matchday Two tie.
