Heartland FC defender, Peters Afolayan has asserted that his heart is yet to heal from the sudden death of his mother, Late Mrs Maria Omotayo Afolayan who died recently after a brief illness.
Late Mrs Afolayan, 68 years, died on April 17th, 2024 and has been buried, but Peters, one of the children that survived her disclosed that it was hard for him to fathom that he had lost his mother but that he is happy that she lived an exemplary life worthy of emulation.
“It was a tough one for me when my mother died. I felt my whole world crumbled because she meant so much to me. She was my everything but she is no more,” Afolayan told Heartland FC Media.
“I will continue to remember the good legacies she left behind and all the advise and encouragement I have received from her. She was my all in all but I am grateful to God that she has gone to rest in a better place.”
The Kwara born defender expressed thanks to his teammates and everyone that have been of strengthening aid to him since the unfortunate incident including the Heartland FC head coach, Christian Obi and General Manager, Promise Nwachukwu adding that he hopes to recover from the shock and help in Heartland FC’s late run-in for topflight retention.
Reacting on the death of Peters Afolayan’s mother, Heartland FC head coach, Christian Obi opined that he would do all within his powers to ensure that the defender does not feel the death of his mother too much.
Obi who said he was the first commiserate with him over the death of his mother pointed out that he would help the player overcome the trauma.
“I was the first person he called when he lost his mother and I gave him words of encouragement. He is dear to me because he has been with the team since the lower league days. He has been consistent and we will do everything possible to ensure he does not feel the loss of his mother,” Obi disclosed shortly after Heartland FC defeated Shooting Stars 1-0 in Owerri.
Also expressing his grief is the General Manager of Heartland FC, Promise Nwachukwu. He prayed for the repose of the life of late Mrs Maria Omotayo Afolayan while also thanking God that she raised her children, including Peters, very well.
Heartland FC skipper, Nnaemeka Anyanwu on behalf of the players also showed his concern and asked God to rest the soul of Late Mrs Afolayan.
