Governor Okezie Ikpeazu Preseason Tournament Day 5 Wrap: Goals galore as Abia Warriors, two others pick last quarter final tickets

It was avalanche of goals as the group stages of the Governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu Preseason Tournament ended in Aba on Thursday.

Abia Warriors saved the best for last to pick one of the quarter final tickets while Ahudiya FC and Jaguar Football Academy completed the list of the last eight teams.

Before the final group games, Enyimba, City FC, Sunshine Stars, Supreme Kings and Apex Krane got their quarter final tickets based on their earlier results.

Abia Warriors were in danger of early elimination prior to the last group games after two successive draws with Sunshine Stars and Supreme Kings but they displayed champions stuff beating Jewels Academy 5-0 with Bello Lukman scoring four goals and Musa Najere with the other goal.

The goal blitz catapulted Abia Warriors to the top of Group B ahead of Sunshine Stars on goals difference with both teams finishing on five points. Supreme Kings picked one the best third teams’ tickets.

In Group A, Enyimba kept their 100 percent record intact after a 4-0 thrashing of Ngwa United who bowed out of the tournament as the only team without any point after the group games. Ekene Awaziem, Ikenna Cooper, Abubakar Sadiq, and Chisom Okereke were with the goals.

City FC and Ahudiya were the two other qualifiers from Group A. Abuja based City FC finished second while Ahudiya FC bagged the remaining slot in the last eight despite finishing third.

In Group C Jaguar FC whitewashed South City 4-0 to snatch the quarter final ticket off the defeated side. South City were ahead with three points before the last game but they lowered their guard and were eliminated from the tournament. Okechukwu Success, Ekwunife Michael, Iduma Kelechi, and Onyejiaka Chukwuemeka with the goals for Jaguar FC.

The emphatic win ensured Jaguar FC finished second in the group with four points from three games. They qualified alongside Apex Krane from Group C whose 100 per cent start to the tournament was halted by Empire Academy who held them to a 1-1 draw. Marshall Israel scored for Apex Krane while Ifeanyi Nkwoemeka got the goal for Empire Academy.
