Enyimba, Abia Warriors, Plateau United and A&A Football Academy got important victories on the opening day of hostilities of the Governor Ikpeazu Pre-season Tournament in Aba on Sunday.
It was A&A Football Academy of Uyo that created the first upset of the tourney after they silent National League side, Abia Comets 2-0 in the opening game. Ebuka and Israel Emmanuel scored both goals for the nonleague team from Uyo.
Abia Warriors ensured the goals continued to flow when they humbled Flight FC, Gboko 4-0 in a masterclass first half performances
Paul Samson, Nzube Anazemba, Yakub Hammed and Christian Samuel were the goalscorers for the Warriors. They scored the four goals in the first half.
In the third game, Plateau United benefitted from early goal converted by Saeed Jubrin in the 25th minute to beat resilience Abia Greater Tomorrow 1-0. Jubrin fired from outside the box to give the Peace Boys the much needed curtain raiser.
The nonleague side played the game that caught the attention of the few journalists and organisers at the stadium with Covid-19 protocols hindering fans from attending.
Enyimba played the last game of the first day of hostilities and they were in no joke mood as they dazed Cynosure 4-0 in Aba.
Victor Mbaoma’s double, and one each from Austin Oladapo and Dayo Ojo accounted for the People’s Elephant.
Four matches are billed for Monday also. Jewel FC face Enyimba at 10am ; Ngwa United versus Flight FC (12pm); Cynosure versus Flight FC (2 pm) and Abia Warriors slug it out with Plateau United by 4 pm.
