Former Enyimba and Super Falcons head coach, Kadiri Ikhana is appealing to Nigerians to come to his aid and help defray some of the medical cost of the three surgeries he is scheduled to undergo in the hip and spinal cord areas.
The hospital he is presently admitted, Alliance Hospital, Abuja put the cost of the three surgeries at 10 million naira.
The hospital had called Ikhana who is a member of the Green Eagles team that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1980 on home soil to come for a hip surgery without charges but after an x-ray conducted on him, it was observed that he would have to do three surgeries instead of one.
The ex-Kano Pillars gaffer successfully underwent hip replacement surgery on Thursday in Abuja and after about four hours at the theatre, Ikhana was wheeled into the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital to enable him rest after the surgery before he would be returned to his ward.
One of the nurses at the hospital, Juliet Uwakwe opined that:
“It was a total hip replacement surgery and we decided to put him in the ICU for him to be stable and for him to okay and with no stress from relatives who must have come to inquire about his health,” Uwakwe spoke to ITV, Abuja and monitored by Dasportstainment247.com.
“We just need him to rest and after some few hours at the ICU, we are going to move him back to his room in the ward.
“I can’t really say for now when he will have the second surgery and the surgeon will have to determine that. But from the situations of things and how he has shown a speedy recovery thus far after his hip replacement surgery, I believe before long he will be fit to go for the second surgery.”
Barely five hours after the surgery, Ikhana whose speeches are not too coherent said he is feeling a little better and that with time he would get over his present challenges.
He thumbed up the assistance rendered by Alliance Hospital for the effort being made by the hospital to ensure that he becomes a normal person again and he also appealed to Nigerians not to abandon him at this time of his need.
Ikhana will still undergo another hip replacement surgery before he will go for a spinal cord surgery as well and he is in dire need of financial assistance no matter how little.
