Super Falcons and Dijon FC of France striker, Desire Ugochi Oparanozie has reiterated her unalloyed quest to ensure that the girl child is more active in sports and education.
Speaking during the programme organised by her foundation- Desire Oparanozie Foundation (DOF) in conjunction with Team Nigeria UK held for students of Girls Secondary School, Ikenegbu, Owerri titled Health Care for Girls the ex- Wolfsburg of Germany forward said she was impressed with the turnout and has mapped out strategies to make it more elaborate next year.
The Foundation with its partners was able to bring a seasoned doctor to the Girls Secondary School, Ikenegbu to put the girls up to speed on Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
Oparanozie noted she plans to ensure that life-changing and imparting activities are organised for her alma mater, Girls Secondary School, Ikenegbu but she rued the effect of Covid-19 on the global economy including Nigeria but was thrilled that the virus is gradually being contained and life easing off again.
“I feel very good. I am happy with the turnout of the girls even on a Saturday. Seeing them how happy they are is a plus for me and that makes me happy too. Imparting knowledge to them is an important thing to do,” Oparanozie told www.dasportstainment247.com
“Unfortunately, there was Covid-19 last year. The foundation tends to do something for the girls every year but unfortunately, we couldn’t do anything last year because of that. Good enough life is gradually coming back to normal and we were able to do this. Covid had a negative impact and it affected a whole lot of us and thank God that life is gradually taking shape.”
The Super Falcons striker describes sports as a veritable ground for youths to get off nefarious activities and that she decided, through her foundation to target girl child to enable them to fulfill their potentials of taking part in sports of their choice and also combining it with qualitative education.
She said she made girl child the focal point of her activities because Desire Oparanozie Foundation is all about encouraging the girl child to aspire to be who they want to be and that the foundation will come back with more impactful activities next year.
“Sports is a very big industry around the world it has a whole lot of positives. Sports get the youth off the streets and keep them busy and it makes them live a healthy life,” Oparanozie added.
“There is a whole lot we can gain from sports and in the event, we had two years ago, I targeted the school kids because the foundation is about encouraging the girl child to be more involved in sports and also be involved in school as well. It is basically about doing both at the same time.”
