Newly invited Super Eagles striker, Umar Sadiq has continued his impressive form in front of the goal after he notched his 19th league goal of the season for Almeria in a tense 3-2 loss to Cartagena on Tuesday night.

It was the host who drew the first blood in the 41st minute through Ruben Castro before Sadiq leveled scores on the stroke of half-time to ensure both teams headed for the break at 1-1 apiece.

On return of the second half, Cartagena shot into the lead again two minutes into the second half through Castro for his second of the game but Sadiq was fouled for the penalty kick that drew his team level in the 54th minute through Largie Ramazani.

Almeria did all they could to pick a point in the match but they ended up on the losing side after Cartagena which paraded Super Eagles’ Ramon Azeez in the game bagged the match-winner in the 82nd minute through Pablo De Blasis’ expertly converted spot-kick. Interestingly, the Brazil 2014 World Cup player came in the 73rd minute of the game.

With the result, Almeria are still in the 3rd position with 67 points from 40 games but they could be overtaken if Leganes, who are fourth with a point behind but with a game in hand, secure a victory at Mirandes tonight.

Sadiq is still third in the race for the highest scorer in the Spanish La Liga Smart Bank with 19 goals. Espanyol’s Raul de Tomas is the current leader with 22 goals while Uros Djurdjevic (Sporting Gijon) is second with 21 goals. Cartagena’s Ruben Castro’s double against Almeria drew him level with Sadiq on 19 goals also and in joint third.
