Former U 23 player, Sadiq Umar continued from where he stopped last season as he scored once and helped his Spanish club, Almeria to a 3-1 win over Cartagena in the first game of the La Liga Smartbank 2021-22 season.
He scored the first goal of the match in the 19 minutes of play after a fine assist from Jose Carlos . Umar registered his name again in the score sheet but no thanks no VAR which nullified the strike in the 41st minute after he tormented the back line of the hosts with his intelligent runs and a goal to end the game .
He netted twice against Real Betis in a friendly game last week before the commencement of the league.
Umar is expecting another barnstorming season just like last season where he scored 20 goals in the league alone.
Sadiq Umar will hope he is third time lucky when the list of the Super Eagles to be invited for the upcoming two 2022 World Cup qualifying games slated for next month with his fans waiting with bated eyes to see him in the Eagles’ jersey.
He has received two invitation before now but club engagements forced him to pull out as he sought to help Almeria secure promotion to the la Liga during the play off then.
