Says He Is Proud To Associate With Edo Arsenal
In the spirit of remembering and giving back to the root, Augsburg FC of Germany defender, Ohis Felix Uduokhai has extended his trait of cheerful giving to his home football club, Bendel Insurance of Benin as he donates pairs of playing materials to the club.
The presentation was carried out at Bendel Insurance’s camp shortly after their morning training, by the father of the donor, Mr Felix Uduokhai who handed over the sets of jerseys, boots, balls, bibs, socks.
While presenting the kits, the 24-year-old defender through his father said this is a way of him giving back to his people and origin. “It’s a good thing to see that the club is doing fine and are investing a lot to meet up with the international standards”. Mr Felix Uduokh further said, “I’m proud to say this that I’m a pioneer of Bendel Insurance FC, I recall that during the Samuel Ogbemudia regime, “I was given the scholarship to study and it’s now time to give back to the team and to appreciate them for their good job in repositioning the team.”
In receiving the kits, the general coordinator of sports in the office of the deputy governor, Mrs Sabina Amiemenoghena Chikere said the team appreciate this and are saying thanks to the donors.
“We want to say very big thank you for your support and your encouragement. We equally want you to know that Bendel Insurance is a rebranded team and we are protecting it with utmost care. We promise you and our entire fans that we will make them proud, we would deliver the best as that’s what Edo state is known for.
We equally want to say our thanks to your son, we hope to see him soon and of course, have him train with us.”
“We pray for more supportive like this from well-meaning citizens of the state in supporting the team; thank you very much.”
The Annaberg-Buchholz born, after his previous team 1860 Munich had been relegated from Bundesliga 2 to fourth-tier Regionalliga Bayern, Uduokhai moved to Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg, signing a five-year-contract until 2022.
On 28 August 2019, it was announced that Uduokhai will be on loan to FC Augsburg until the end of the season. On 4 June 2020, FC Augsburg confirmed they would use the option to buy in Uduokhai’s loan deal. He completed a permanent transfer to the club for a fee of 9 million euros.
Uduokhai has played several matches with the German U19, U20, and U21 national teams. Uduokhai was named in Germany’s squad for the 2020 Summer Olympics, where he scored the winning goal in the team’s second match, heading home from a Max Kruse corner to give Germany a 3-2 victory over Saudi Arabia.
The 6 feet and 4 inches tall defender who earned his first call-up for the German senior team on 6 November 2020 is yet to make his debut. However, playing for Nigeria is still an option for Uduokhai, if the opportunity comes calling.
Personalities present at the presentation are the Chief Press Secretary to the deputy governor of Edo state, Comrade Musa Ebomhiana; Coach Greg Ikhenoba and Mr Uanseru Omogbai Udo who accompanied Mr Felix Uduokhai.
