The 2025 CGC Volleyball Premier League in Abuja served up another feast of action on Day 8, with men’s defending champions Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) VC and Women’s reigning Queens, Nigeria Customs Service VC consolidating their dominance in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively.
In the men’s division, CNS VC showcased their resilience with a 3-1 comeback victory over close rivals Chief of Army Staff (COAS) VC. After dropping the opening set 20-25, the champions roared back in style to claim the next three sets 25-11, 25-21, 25-20, tightening their grip at the top of the standings.
Nigeria Customs Service VC also maintained the chase, overpowering Nigeria Correctional Service VC 3-1 (25-17, 25-20, 25-27, 25-23) in another tough duel. Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) climbed further up the ladder after edging Nigeria Air Force VC 3-1 (25-20, 25-22, 12-25, 29-27), while Nigeria Police Force VC continued their revival, sealing a commanding straight-sets win over Sunshine Spikers (25-17, 25-15, 25-21).
Elsewhere, Kano Pillars swept Kada Kings 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-23), and UCEM fell narrowly to Offa VC in a gripping five-setter, losing 2-3 (29-27, 19-25, 22-25, 25-14, 13-15).
In the women’s fixtures, Customs VC extended their perfect record with a ruthless 3-0 dismantling of Life Camp VC (25-12, 25-21, 25-12). Their nearest challengers, Chief of Naval Staff Queens, also posted a straight-sets win over Olalomi Spikers (25-16, 25-15, 25-21), while Chief of Army Staff Queens defeated Anambra Queens 3-0 (28-26, 25-14, 25-21).
Nigeria Air Force Queens turned on the style to crush Benue Queens 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-18), but NSCDC Queens were made to work harder, overcoming Kada Queens 3-1 (25-19, 18-15, 25-9, 25-15).
With only a few matchdays left in the first phase, CNS (men) and Customs (women) remain the pace-setters, but the chasing pack led by COAS, NSCDC, and Nigeria Police are determined to keep the pressure alive.
