Games Village Volleyball Club have qualified for the final of the 2023 Abuja invitational Volleyball Challenge in the Men’s category after they outwitted Scorpion Spikers in straight sets of 25-23, 25-22 and 25-12 in a closely fought contest played at the Indoor hall of Moshood Abiola Stadium Package B in Abuja on Wednesday.
Games Village VC topped Group A while Scorpions Spikers finished ahead of G Ranks and CNS Spikers in Group D. It was a tough encounter but Games Village managed to repel them in the opening two sets. Having lost the first two sets with close margins, Scorpions Spikers couldn’t get the motivation to engineer a comeback and thus lost the third set 25-12 pts.
In the second semi-final Game, Offa Volleyball got the better of Defence Spikers by 3-1 ( 25-20) (19-25 ) (28-25) (28-26).
Defence Spikers had topped Group B and were expected to give Offa VC who also ended as Group C winner a good run for their money, but it was the Kwara State reps that triumphed in another close encounter.
Games Village Volleyball Club and Offa Volleyball Club will now contest to determine the champions of the 2023 edition of the championship inside the Indoor hall of Moshood Abiola Stadium packed B in Abuja on Thursday afternoon.
While Scorpion Spikers and Defence Spikers will slug it out in the third place Game on Thursday before the final game.
The 12th edition of the tourney was financed by Chairman of Nigeria Park Volleyball Commission, Major General Taritimiye Gagariga with 50 teams taken part in the competition in Male and female categories.
Speaking shortly after the semi final games on Wednesday in Abuja, the sponsor of Abuja Invitational Volleyball Challenge Major Gen Gagariga expressed that the initiative is purely developmental.
He said the joy of the challenge is to see upcoming players showcase their talents for the technical department of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation to identify them.
