Niger Tornadoes head coach, Abubakar Bala believes the 2022-23 abridged league season will be competitive.

Bala who opposed the notion that Group A would be tougher than B noted that names won’t play the games when the season starts and that previous abridged league seasons have shown that less fancied teams can spring surprises.

“Some people are tagging Group A as the Group of Death. I don’t agree with that assertion. It is not about the name or the status of the clubs in the group,” Bala told our correspondent.

“It is an abridged league season and it is always full of drama. A top team can fall and less fancied team can rise. It is a matter of taking your chances,”
It is going to be a tight league season and results would be very close. It is going to be tougher than the regular league season.”

Bala predicts a tough encounter with Wikki Tourists this weekend in Bauchi but disclosed that the Ikon Allah Boys won’t take the game lightly.

“It is going to be a very tough one. We are hoping for the best. We are well prepared.

“Football is not played by names of the teams. If you are the gap between the top four and the rest of the teams, the gap was not much last season.”
