Africa’s leading pitch construction giant Monimichelle sports has been contacted by Cameroon to help seek a lasting solution to the state of Japoma Stadium in Douala one of the centres of ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
Japoma Stadium pitch received thumbs down from the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) and despite hitherto billed to host one of the semi-final games of the AFCON the nature of the pitch made the privilege to be taken away from the stadium as the game has now been taken to Yaounde.
To ensure Japoma Stadium pitch is back to its best the Executive Governor of Douala, Samuel Ivaha Diboua held a closed door meeting with the Managing Director, Monimichelle Sports Facility Construction Company, Ebi Ezekiel Egbe with a view to ensuring the pitch is in top shape again.
“I had a closed door meeting with the Executive Governor of Douala In Cameroun concerning the state of Japoma Stadium pitch where Cameroon defeated Gambia in the quarter- final of the ongoing AFCON 2021,” Egbe told dasportstainment247.com.
“Monimichelle Sports Yenagoa -Nigeria have been mandated to proffer a lasting solution to the playing turf of this beautiful World standard A grade 60,000 capacity stadium in Douala.
“Once again we have been vindicated on our cry for Africa to stop constructing tournament pitches (100% natural Grass pitches) that cannot outlive a major tournament like the AFCON.
“The AFCON should be an opportunity for countries to construct sustainable hybrid synthetic pitches that can outlive the AFCON by minimum 10 years.”
