.Katsina United, others poised for today’s action

Sokoto United created a massive upset at the on-going Abuja Unity Pre-season Tournament after they defeated 2017 NPFL champions, Plateau United 2-1 in a group game played yesterday.

The same team had beaten the Peace Boys 1-0 at the Governor Aminu Masari Pre-season Tournament held in Katsina last season.

Sokoto United struck first through Alex Kawakdu but John Danga equalised for Plateau United before Bala Yusuf shocked the fans at the stadium with the second goal for the NNL side and they held on to secure a memorable victory and their first win of the tournament.

In another game played yesterday, Nasarawa United made amends for their 1-1 draw with Cynosure to drub Mavlon 5-0. It was Mavlon’s second defeat.

Aliyu Abdullahi hit a brace in the 28th and 53rd minutes while Dauda Maigishiri, Chijioke Alaekwe and Osanga King added a goal each in the 34th, 49th and 76th minutes. The fifth goal was from the penalty kick.

Wikki Tourists thrashed NYSC FC 4-0 for their second consecutive win in the tournament. Promise Damala, Aliyu Abubakar, Kabiru Adeniji and Taye Muritala scored one each to ensure the Giant Elephants are yet to concede a goal in the pre-season tourney.

In the last game of Day Four, Cynosure and FOSLA Academy battled to a goalless draw. It was the first game to end without at least a goal scored.

Today, five games have been slated. Katsina United will target their second win when they face Capital City FC while Nasarawa United and FOSLA Academy will trade tackles in the battle of two undefeated teams. The Solid Miners are ahead in the group by virtue of better goals difference.

In another game, Plateau United will hope to return to winning ways against impressive SimoIben who have won their first two games. Fidelis Ilechukwu’s men must beat a team supported by Nantes FC of France winger, Moses Simon if they want to qualify.

While WACO FC will strive to seek to end the pre-season tourney with a bang by aspiring for their first points when they face Sokoto United. Sokoto United will need a big win to put their destiny in their hands without depending on the result of Plateau United and SimoIben.
