Ahead of the 2019/20 Nigeria Professional Football League season, former FC Ifeanyi Ubah striker Uche Ihuarulam has sealed a one year contract with Kabiru Dogo’s Sunshine Stars. The forward noted that the decision to move to Akure was borne out of the need to change the environment.
Hear him: “My decision to leave FC IfeanyiUbah is normal because in football players move from one club to another and I felt I needed to change the environment.”
Although I missed the players and the coaches
because they were so wonderful and nice to me but I have to move on with my
career. I also left the club because of some unpleasant situations which I
don’t want to delve into. I am just happy that I am now in Sunshine Stars FC”
Despite joining FC IfeanyiUbah last midseason, Ihuarulam finished as the club’s highest goal scorer with five goals for the Nnewi based side in the league alone.
For his new club, he says he has set a personal target to score at least 15 goals and also to help his team finish among the top teams in the topflight.
“My goal this season is to help the team clinch a continental ticket or possibly win the league and my target as a person is to score at least 15 goals this season. I just pray to be healthy and have an injury-free season,” he continued.
Having joined the Akure based club, Ihuarulam believes the calibre of players on the ground and the philosophy and ability of coach Dogo will play a big role in helping the team perform well in the forthcoming season.
“Coach Kabiru Dogo is a great coach. Dogo is very intelligent, jovial, humble and very close to players and coupled with the calibre of players we already have, the coach will do well this season. We have the likes of Jamiu Alimi and Wasiu Jimoh who I believe have the capability to help the club.”
With the new season billed to kick-off on the third of November, 2019 Sunshine Stars will be on the road to face Rangers International of Enugu in their season opener.
