Governor Ikpeazu Pre-season Tourney Day 3 Wrap: Plateau United, Abia Warriors grab easy wins as Jewel, Abia Comets register first victory

PLATEAU UNITED 3-1 NGWA UNITED 

Plateau United secured their second win of the ongoing Governor Ikpeazu Pre-season Tournament with a 3-1 triumph over Ngwa United of Aba on Tuesday at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba.
Gabriel Wassa put the Peace Boys in the ascendancy in the 54th minute through a thunderous shot which the Ngwa United goalkeeper could not stop. The goal came after the first half had ended goalless with both teams not ambitious enough to break the deadlock. Buhari Ibrahim increased the tally in the 57th minute for the CAF Champions League hopeful and Abdulrahman Bashir scored the third two minutes later to ensure any possible thought of a comeback was extinguished as Plateau United went 3-0 up.
Ngwa United however reduced the goals arears in the 68th minute through Michael Josiah after Plateau United’s Isah Ndala was adjudged to have committed an infringement in the vital area.
Plateau United are second in Group B with seven points from three games behind Abia Warriors who have the same seven points but are on top by their superior goals difference.
Abdu Maikaba’s men face Flight FC by 4 pm on Wednesday while Ngwa United and Abia Greater Tomorrow slug it out in the first game of Wednesday by 10 am.


ABIA WARRIORS 3-1 ABIA GREATER TOMORROW

Abia Warriors whitewashed Abia Greater Tomorrow 3-1 on Tuesday to send further signal to other teams participating teams at the ongoing Governor Ikpeazu Pre-season Tournament that they are in Aba for serious business.
Mustapha Jibreel combined very well with Okon Otop to drill home the opening goal in the 10th minute. But Abia Greater Tomorrow fought back gamely and were rewarded with the equaliser in the 60th minute from the penalty spot after Abia Warriors had been reduced to 10 players.
Instead of the numerical disadvantage to worry Abia Warriors they braced up to the challenge and scored two further goals in the 66th and 83rd minutes to kill off the resistance of Abia Greater Tomorrow as the game ended 3-1.
Abia Warriors are off on Wednesday but Abia Greater Tomorrow have a date with Ngwa United in the early kick off.


ABIA COMETS 2-1 CYNOSURE

Abia Comets staged a winning return to the Governor Ikpeazu Pre-season Tournament after a close 2-1 victory over Cynosure on Tuesday at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba.
Abia Comets were taught football lesson on Sunday by A&A FC of Uyo who dazed them 2-0 but they showed statement of intent right from the blast of the referee’s whistle in Aba against Cynosure of Abakaliki.
Former Niger Tornadoes and Rising Star of Ondo striker, Kayode Agboola shot Abia Comets ahead in the seventh minute through individual brilliance but Abuma King restored parity for Cynosure FC in the 51st minute after Abia Comets goalkeeper spilled his freekick.
Abia Comets had the last laugh when Hycient Olie put them in the driver’s seat again from the spotkick in the 80th minute after Agboola, the scorer of the first goal was fouled in Cynosure’s goal area.
Abia Comets will trade tackles with Jewel FC on Wednesday by 2 pm while Cynosure who are yet to pick a point after three games are exempted from action on Wednesday.

A&A FC 2-3 JEWEL FC

After two successive victories A&A FC of Uyo met their match on Tuesday at the ongoing Governor Ikpeazu Pre-season Tournament after they were beaten by Jewel FC.
Stanley Okafor scored Jewel FC’s first goal in the sixth minute from the penalty spot but A&A levelled up the proceeding in the 30th minute through Bassey Bassey as the first half ended 1-1.
Jewel scored twice in the spate of four minutes in the 69th and 73rd minutes through Chuks Robert and Obinna Nwakonobi respectively to ensure they raced to a 3-1 lead. A&A did add one through Israel Emmanuel in the 78th minute to make it 3-2 but it was too little, too late as Jewel held on to register their first victory of the pre-season Tournament.
A&A FC will have a tough battle on their hands when they file out against Enyimba at 12 noon on Wednesday while Jewel FC entertain Abia Comet the same Wednesday.
