Basketball: D’Tigress begin title defence with Mozambique win

Defending Champions, D’Tigress defeated Mozambique 67-50 in their opening match of the 2021 Afrobasket Championship at the Multipurpose Sports Complex, Yaounde, Cameroon.

Nigeria had to come from behind (11-12, 18-21) in the first two quarters to put up a commanding performance in the third and fourth quarters (24-9, 14-8).

Ezinne Kalu emerged as D’Tigress top performer with 17 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists.
Adaora Elonu had 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists.

Stefania Chiziane was Mozambique’s best performer with 12 points and 3 rebounds.

Nigeria will next face Angola on Monday, September 20 while Mozambique will also face Angola on September 19.

D’Tigress are the team to beat in the competition having won the last two editions in 2017 and 2019. Can they defend it to make it third straight win?
