Abia Warriors picked up another precious three points at home in their tension soaked 2-1 victory over Plateau United in a Matchday 19 tie played at the Okigwe Township Stadium, Imo State yesterday.

The Umuahia side started impressively with a fine goal in the fourth minute courtesy Paul Samson whose nice flick from about 20 yards away flew past Dele Ajiboye. It was the home team’s first chance of the game was finished off with aplomb.

Ibrahim Mustapha restored parity for the Peace Boys from the penalty kick in the ninth minute when Oche Ochowechi was upended by Abia Warriors’ defender in the vital area.

Abia Warriors stepped up their game despite the equaliser from the visitors and they were rewarded with the second goal in the 15th minute to ensure they returned to winning ways after the embarrassing 5-3 defeat to Nasarawa United in Lafia penultimate weekend.

Imama Amapakabo’s men displaced Plateau United in the 10th position as a result of their seventh win of the season. They have 27 points from 19 games while the Peace Boys dropped to the 11th spot with 25 points from 19 matches.
